Search Engines Optimization (SEO)

The SEO-Start software set implements requirements to web sites mandated by a majority of SEO companies, which are independent of the actual site content. By using SEO-Start you will improve visibility of your site in search engines, even if no specific additional tuning is involved.

The SEO-start provides following functionality:

• Management of URLs for the internal pages of your site. It helps create "speaking" addresses for your pages, e.g. www.ivelum.com/products/frontcontent/. Besides making a page address more readable it now includes keywords, such as a name of your product.
• Emphasizing the main site address. Addresses like http://ivelum.com, http://www.ivelum.com, http://www.ivelum.com/default.asp may point to the same web page, but they are three different addresses for a search engine. To avoid separate indexing by an indexing robot, one main name for the site is picked and the rest of the pages refer to it.
• Header, keyword and page descriptions control. This option redefines automatically generated headers, META-words and page descriptions to new ones created manually. By combining automatic and manual generation, one can quickly get headers, keywords and descriptions or labels for the whole site, while still able to fine-tune particular pages.
• Control of the robots.txt file. By controlling robots.txt one can manage site indexing by the search engines, i.e. allow or ban parts of the site for indexing, or provide the indexing robot with some instructions. This option allows robots.txt management directly from the common interface of FrontContent.
• 404 message management. You will be able to pick any of the site pages for display in case error 404 is generated by the web server. As one example you could create a 404 page of your own, or redirect to the main page of your site or use a page with a form for searching your site. A search engine robot will receive a proper 404 code, however, informing it that the requested page does not exist.
• Modification date for the document and «if-Modified-Since» header processing. This function ensures proper format of the modification date for the page and processes If-Modified-Since requests. These are not needed for viewing the pages in a web browser, but affect search engine robots.
• Separate authentication for access to SEO-Start control panel. FrontContent user authentication functions can be used to create access to SEO-Start from a separate account that has no access to the content of the main site. This option is valuable for offloading search engine optimization work to third parties while eliminating concerns for the safety of confidential information and site integrity as a whole.
